Time Zooms Past

Wow! Would be an understatement. What was left of the school holidays seemed to just leap  out the window. I spent the rest of the time trying to complete the rest of my other projects.

1. Cleaning out the bathroom.
With the old rusty thing out, I had to clean out the bathroom and analyse what needed to be done. Break down the brick foundation the tank had been mounted on. After much thought, I decided to   remove 1/3 of the brick foundation and leave the rest to put our bottles of shampoos and stuff on. However, I still haven't done that yet. maybe during the Chinese new year Holidays. (I tried breaking down the wall; chipping it. Realized that its gonna be a big job after all.....)

Repiping. I've done most of it actually except for the shower. Its something about these pre-fabricated walls that are so tough you need a really big hammer drill that I don't own. So I just did what I could. Repipe the supply to the WC (but the faucet that locks the supply leaks, so I need to change that too. Repipe the supply to the hand shower that we clean ourselves after potty business. Its a must to wash up. Not just wiping. So there's a pipe that's just sort of hanging mid-air waiting for me to install a proper shower. Had to make 3 trips to the hardware store to get the elbows, pvc pipes, connectors etc. Kinda like leggo but needed a lot of planning. Thank God we can change the parts that don't go quite well.  I'm happy with the work that I did, just that there's two leaks so I've put a couple of containers to catch the drips. Honestly, if you never realized it those drippy leaks actually amount to quite a large amount of water down the drain. I could fill up a 7 litre pail over night that I use in place of flushing whenever its full. So guys and galls....stop those drips immediately!!!

Before the job. Water dripping merrily away in the little green container. Where the bottles are now used to be that old water tank...What an eyesore!!!  Next project...

Tools of the trade....hahaha this time I only made one trip to the hardware store.....!

Making sure I get no more drippy pipes. I put extra tape on the tread of the male socket......

Finally, drips no more. What  a relief!!!

Tiling. The exposed wall was not tiled for obvious reasons, mainly because the gigantic rusty thing hid it from view for almost 30 years. I think I will wait for the next sale at the tile shop before I make any purchase. KIV that too...

2.  Washing Machine.

I relocated that to another corner of the little 'laundry' area nearer to the bathroom in hope that the repiping I did would help. In some ways yes, as I reused a redundant water source that I had closed up from an old hand basin. The water supply came from the old tank and I didn't favour using that faucet to have our mouths washed when brushing our teeth. I was dreaming of installing a small wash basin in the area but I had to shelve the idea. No more space! We have this dryer that I want to mount up on the wall but sparks came out one day and I haven't used it since. Haven;'t had that serviced since. I put up a shelf to put detergent, softner and bleach above the washing machine and that proved to be extremely helpful. The shelf came from an old computer table I no longer use. I also had to buy a new water filter. One of these polycarbonate cheapo ones that costed less then RM30 just to ensure I whites don't turn brown. If you haven't yet installed one for your washing machine, honestly, you should. I have had one installed and no regrets although it was a little thought provoking how to get it attached and I always get confused which way to turn the cannister when it was time to change the disposable filters. Always wondered if there was any way to recycle the filters rather then throwint them into the dumpster. Next change, I will try if I could plant something in the filter.....

Ah...the shelf I put up above the washing machine using a piece from an old computer table... Now I function better.....muahahaha....!

This is the cheapo filter I installed. See the ropework...? Well, that's because my lame drill is useless for this wall. So, I just hung up the filter.  The extra hoses? Ops....I must have forgotten to put it away.  The extra hose came from my new washing machine. I made some 'upgrades' to the old hose so it fits better than the new one with clip...See if you can spot the 'upgrade'.

Honestly, I want to clear the area more but my daughter has this big bag of tins for recycling which she is collecting. An eyesore really and I will be most happy when that is out the door.

3. Ceiling of bathroom. The paint is peeling. Well, it has been some years that I painted that. The moisture from the apartment above; not helpful.  I am wondering how to treat that. Would it  be a crazy idea to get some lino and stick it up there? I can tile walls a little but have no confidence in tiling ceilings. It sounds safer to have some line sheets falling on my head compare to heavy tiles... We will see...( I checked out YouTube some sites on installing ceiling tiles....wonder if I can do it...It seems painful if I don't do it well....What do you think...?

Bad peeling and fungal problem on the ceiling....Must scrape off the paint, treat, seal then finish it off. Wish I was taller....
I had the glass on the window replaced some years ago for RM60. Wasn't cheap for only one small piece. Then my son tries to attack a fly buzzing away near the window.  You can imagine the rest.....
