An Affair With Tumeric

I started planting in this old WC (Water Closet ; that the container that stores water in the toilet that has the flusher) about two years ago when the WC leaked and I had to get rid of it. Oh, btw, I'm a DIY freak so I did it all by myself. Buying a new plastic WC that is a lot lighter and did not require a multitude of effort to install. Anyway, I cleaned up the old WC and filled it with soil and such. One day, at Tesco, I bought this huge bag of fresh tumeric for a song at the budget shelf and decided to plant them. I had tumeric leaves for a while but last year was a dry year so they dried out after a while. (I'm so lazy at watering...Oh yes. I also had these humungous garden snails that keep coming after my leaves too...So that wasn't so successful.

This year started off quite wet, so while removing some old mosquito netting from my bedroom windows (Still haven't gotten around to replace them though), I thought I'd recycle them. Hence, starting my little gardening project for this year.

So back to the tumeric, I made good use of the old netting and an old umbrella (using the metal spokes) to re-start my tumeric project. Its been about two months now. Those snails couldn't get to the tumeric leaves and the leaves came out beautifully. So I had my first taste of the leaves making 'sambal udang tempoyak' yesterday. Much to the chagrin of my daughter who can't stand the smell of durians. Yummm...
